Thank you to each and every person who showed us love during Phoenix Comicon 2013 and the Kids Need to Read Geek Prom. It was such a fantastic convention! We are always completely blown away by the incredible warmth and outpouring of support for KNTR every year. It is not something we ever take for granted; in fact, it always takes us by surprise. The fourth annual KNTR Geek Prom, sponsored by Bookmans, was a Geektastic success! The KNTR Build-a-Book program featuring author/illustrator Steven Riley was once again a big hit with the kids! Staying true to our mission, the program taught children how to create stories, and each child left with a beautiful new book, backpack (sponsored by Bookmans), Highlights and Cricket magazines, buttons, and other goodies. Kids Need to Read also presented a well-attended anti-bulling panel, as well as several excellent writing, illustrating, and storytelling programs. The KNTR booth was consistently busy, and fundraisers by Phoenix Comicon and various artists, gamers, and costuming groups resulted in many contributions to our organization. In the end, Kids Need to Read and its sponsors, volunteers, and supporters raised over $25,000 during the event! We extend our deepest gratitude to Phoenix Comicon, Bookmans, and everyone who went above and beyond to make the weekend an enormous success for KNTR. Every effort, large or small, makes a difference for Kids Need to Read and the literacy programs it produces for children!
