Kids Need to Read was honored to partner with Mesa Arts Center during the 2013–2014 school year, supporting their Literacy through the Arts residency program at Lowell Elementary School in Mesa, Arizona. Kids Need to Read provided books in support of the program, which encouraged literacy through school presentations and theater performances. Books provided to the students and/or teachers were Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, by Lewis Carroll; Frindle, by Andrew Clements; Opuestos, by Cynthia Weill, Martn Santiago, and Quirino Santiago; and Dream Carver, by Diana Cohn and Amy Cordova. KNTR Executive Director Denise Gary was invited to participate in various school presentations, as well as a Salzburg Marionettes presentation of Alice in Wonderland at Mesa Arts Center. Students attended performances of Frindle and Dream Carver at Mesa Arts Center, as well. Many thanks to Mandy Buscas, Ashley Hare, Andy Waldron, and Laura Wilde for allowing Kids Need to Read to be a part of their wonderful program! Literacy and the arts is clearly a winning combination!
