Kids Need to Read partnered with Friends of the Phoenix Public Library to produce a free community event celebrating family literacy and the 35th anniversary of the Friends group! Kids Need to Read provided free backpacks filled with a book and age-appropriate magazine (Highlights, Cricket, or Cicada) to all children in attendance. This fun-filled event also featured presentations by children's author/illustrator Steven Riley (Little Ty Cooney and the Grand Canyon Tour Company) and OneBookAZ author Lynda Exley (Arizona Way Out West & Witty), as well as the Mad Science crew. Add the Arizona Avengers, Justice League Arizona, video games, rock wall, and more—there was something for everyone!
