HIKRZ
Growing up, times were tight. We didn't have much money for travel, but that never stopped me from having amazing vacations. My friends would get to visit places like Disneyland and Sea World, but I would travel to magical kingdoms like Narnia and Middle Earth. Books give you a passport to incredible adventures. All you need to do is open them up and dive in. It will change your life!– J.S. Lewis, Grey Griffins series
Hikers Inspiring Kids to Read Zealously
HIKRZ is a group of avid hikers who are using their passion to raise money for Kids Need to Read. Any hiker in any part of the globe can be a part of our fun and healthy efforts to promote childhood literacy. We previously conducted a small-scale hike-a-thon to sponsor the Kids Need to Read 2010 wall calendar, packing children's books from the KNTR Book List to “plant” at our destinations. The fundraising HIKRZ are now developing a large hike-a-thon event at Usery Mountain Regional Park in Mesa, Arizona. It will take place on November 6, 2010. More information to be announced.
The KNTR HIKRZ believe that literacy and physical well-being are two of the largest challenges posed to the children of today. We encourage parents to build a complete atmosphere of health around their children's lives. Read as a family, then take your kids on a hike and talk about what you have read. Watch the intellectual and physical health of your children blossom! You will build a family bond and a love of reading that will last a lifetime.
